What Not to Pack in Your RV
One problem that has always plagued RV owners is limited storage space. In addition to the normal clothing and personal items that you would bring on any trip, there are also linens, cutlery, and other items necessary to sleep and live comfortably in an RV.
In some ways, it is like you are furnishing a small house in addition to packing for a trip! It is no surprise that many RV owners fall into the trap of overpacking. That is why the experts at MYRV have created this guide to help you avoid RV packing mistakes.
Too Much Food
Canned goods can last a long time, and are relatively cheap in bulk. It may be tempting to just stack a bunch of them in your pantry and move on. However, canned goods also tend to be high in sodium and are fairly heavy.
Rather than weigh your camper down with a bunch of dusty cans that you bought three trips ago, take the time to plan out your meals and buy fresh ingredients. Get enough food to last the trip, with a bit extra for emergencies, but don’t overdo it!
Excess Kitchen Equipment
One common mistake is overcrowding your camper’s counter space with lots of unneeded kitchen gadgets. An extraneous coffee maker or toaster means less space to prepare the actual food.
As a general rule, you should only bring things that you will use frequently or that have multiple uses. A few sturdy pots and pans, a cast iron skillet, a place setting for each camper, and some cups can go a long way.
As for more fancy gadgets, if you plan to use them every day or almost every day, bringing them should be fine, but if they are only going to be used once or twice, consider leaving them at home.
Your Entire Wardrobe
Packing clothes is a delicate balance. Everyone should ideally have enough clothes for the entire trip, with an extra change just in case and something to wear during inclement weather like a raincoat or snow jacket.
At the same time, having multiple backups isn’t necessary. You should be prepared for the worst, certainly, but making sure you have space for a first aid kit and other emergency supplies is more important.
